This post is supposed to encourage us to look at positive points gained from the meeting with MMC representatives. 2. I agree that author did not enumerate all possible reasons why scholars want a raise and why privates think they do not need a raise (as opposed to thinking that they don't deserve a raise). Look at point no. 1, maybe the thing about "cukup kah?" is just a filler for his main points? 3. Not all privates are opposed to the raise. Some of us just don't care, so don't categorize each of us as being jealous of scholars getting a raise. 4. Apparently there are some privates who are not jealous yet opposed the raise (for more noble reasons like taxpayer's money must be spent responsibly). If scholars have problem with such groups of privates, feel free to settle it between yourselves, do not bring the argument here please. A forum should be set up in due time and perhaps you can debate there all you want. 5. Not all parents of privates are rich, some parents of scholars are richer than that of privates. So there is no debate of which of us have a more comfortable "bukit emas" to fall back on. 6. $500USD is enough to survive "di bumi Volgograd." I don't think RM500 is enough for me, though. So, don't worry, most of us won't die of starvation, and in case when the risk is real, "boleh mintak daripada mak bapak." Oh by the way, I have restricted further comments for this post, indefinitely. At least will maintain it that way until everyone has calmed down and read my points above. My views:

Lets face the simple, logic, earthly fact. Since most of the scholars are staying in the hostel, (even if you stay outside, the some given is more than generous to pay the rent)USD500 will NOT ONLY cover all the necessities, but also all the extra un-necessities like the iPods, cameras, branded clothes and the Euro trips. Add more to the allowance, and who knows, we can even see students arriving to class in style in their new VW Golfs. Instead of pampering the scholars in a life of luxurious techno gadgets, stylish clothes and groovy trips, the money could be put to better use by improving the life of the REALLY NEEDY, and deserving people suffering back home.
