14th November 2008 – During the past День Отличники, vice pro-rector Spasov announced that the summer practical program for foreign students will be reestablished. Mind you all, the word used was ‘восстановить’, meaning that the program was there some time ago but was canceled due to some unknown reasons.
He said that this is to react on the recommendations given by Malaysian delegation which just visited Volgograd not long ago. For those who was there during the meeting, one of the doctor himself mentioned about this summer practical programe which was supposed to be implemented all the time in order to help students to cope with the neccessary and basic clinical skills.
Mr. Spasov jokingly said that students of the clinical years will be sent to rural areas of Volgograd so that they have plenty of chance to see and do something during the trainings.
For your information, other universities in Russia had more or less implemented this extra program. Take Nizhny Novgorod State Med Uni for example, the students need to pay some 500usd for a limited amount of extra practical classes which are carried out during the evening. Due to the expensive cost, it became a selective program and the opportunity is only opened to those who wants to be trained.
Future announcement will be given by VSMU’s admin during December (hopefully).

I WANNA GO BACK HOME!
Hopefully, it wouldn’t happen but karmically speaking, it should. To be fair, I can’t blame Spasov, though. We brought it upon ourselves.
During practicals, some of us cheat by getting signatures without doing anything and afterwards, these same people complain that we don’t get enough practice.
Tips for people who still have chance: Find out when is the medication-giving time the department you’re practical-ing in and go during those hours. You’ll get to put IV, give injections and so on. The nurses have so much to doand they wouldn’t mind the extra help at these time.

Anyway I don’t agree to have extra practicals in the summer. Why not do it like Nizhny then? Do it in the evening or during the winter, and please, no extra cost!
Too little time left in the evening to do it? I wonder why, when we have 6-day week. Too many lectures? I wonder…
By the way, students of clinical years are currently doing their practicals during the evening? More practicals?
Are we going to do more IVs, IMs, measuring BP, temperature and pulse rate or will we be allowed to see and do something cool?

But excuses are abundant. Winter too cold, too late la..scared of hooligan. winter holis need to go europe…
