They were considered groundbreaking in the sense that, unlike other Malaysian mainstream bands, their genre was far from rock ballad. Indeed, they're hailed as the pioneers of Malaysian grunge. They first achieved fame in the late 90s with 1.2 mg, though the '99 album Transcendence is the one which really showed their mettle. They had a 4-year hiatus after their genre-switching Selamat Tinggal Dunia. Trust me, HUJAN doesn't hold a candle next to Butterfingers. But this summer, my sister, bless her, reintroduced me to butterfingers and they ARE a blast.
